Iraqi Mi-28 engaged in combat against IS ?

Armement fixe :
- un canon automatique Shipunov 2A42 de calibre 30x165mm de 2500 m de portée.
Sous ses ailes, 4 points d'emports
- Jusqu'à 16 missiles guidés anti-chars 9M120 Ataka-B
- des pods de roquettes amovibles (Type S-8, S-13 ou S-24)

Bref, le must en matière de combat.

Mi-28 in Iraqi army

At the same time, when the first French Rafale strike targets of ISIS, a look back on Iraqi Mi-28. This aircraft was eagerly awaited by pilots. Indeed, it has a fully armored fuselage directly cashed up blows 12.7 mm and is equipped with two independent turbines TV3-117VMA developing 2,200 hp each, placed on each side of the fuselage, allowing the helicopter to fly even if one of them were to fail or was hit by gunfire. Air outlets are equipped with a heat reducer giving the Mi-28 a thermal signature 2.5 times lower than that of a Mi-24. These turbines enable it to achieve a normal cruising speed of 280 km / h (330km / h maximum) and cover a distance of 1200 km with additional tanks. In addition, he has flight capabilities day or night by bad weather, and even at low altitude.

The Mi-28N Iraqi embark a wide range of specific weapon
Fixed armaments:
- Automatic cannon 2A42 Shipunov of 30x165mm caliber 2500 m span
Under the wings, 4 carryings points
- Up to 16 anti-tank guided missiles 9M120 Ataka-B
- Removable rocket pods (Type S-8, S-13 or S-24)

In short, the ultimate in combat.

On August 26, the first images of Mi-28NE ready to be conveyed from the production factory in Rostov-on-Don were broadcast via the Russian spotter on the site, http://russianplanes.net.

A few days later, it was the photos and videos of receiving them in "great ceremony" in Baghdad, which were broadcast by the Iraqi Ministry of Defense.

But these were not the first. Three others were already there since July 2, received more discreetly.

This number of six Mi-28 in equipment of the Iraqi Army Aviation led to the creation of a new squadron (the minimum threshold for its creation being six aircraft), Squadron 28 whose first patches appear on social networks on September 5. The codification of this aircrafts is YI-2xx (the first three with codes, YI-281-282 YI YI-283). They are based in Baghdad Almuthana AB.

On September 13, the Iraqi MoD communicated the video of the first Mi-28NE, fully assembled and starting flight tests before the first operational mission! But did the first missions have not already taken place ?

Mi-28 in action?

A certain number of factors suggest that the Iraqi Mi-28 are already engaged in fighting against ISIS. Indeed, the arrival of the first units in early July has largely left time for Iraqi pilots (I said local and not foreign pilots) to be operational by the end of August. In addition, following the receipt of three Mi-28 August 30, information circulated on start up of operations as of September 2 that have been confirmed to me by my sources on the ground because the first engagements would have occurred during the fighting in al-Dhuluiya. The video below would be one of them (confirmed by my contacts), but it is difficult, except for those who would recognize the noise made by the turbine, to know which helicopter is flying here.

Right now, they intervene mainly in the province of Salah al-Din ... to follow ... the first photos and videos should appear soon ...
