"Libyan airstrikes" situation update 10 - 31 August 2016

Following the death of commander of Misrata Air Force, Brigadier General Mukhtar Fakroun and Colonel Omar Dogha, in the crash of their L-39 near university of Sirte on 10th August, Air Force emergency operations room has commissioned pilot Mohammed Umesh as spokesman on 15th. Very few activities were reported by aircraft affiliated to GNA (Government of National Accord).



LNA Air Force operations

On 15th August, LNA media reported that its MiG-21/23s and Mi-8/35s based at Tobruk, Al Abraq and Benina were engaged in heavy attacks on all axes. One of the MiG-21bis was seen carrying one RBK-250-270 PTAB 2.5M cluster bomb under its left wing confirming the using of this type of weapons by LNA Air Force.



On 27th, MiG-23BN serial '4136' carried airstrikes using four French made SAMP bombs. Two days after, MiG-23ML serial '26453' and MiG-23BN serial '4136' performed airstrikes against an armed militia affiliated to IS in Ganfouda area.


On 30th, three Fishbeds (MiG-21MF serial '18' and MiG-21bis serial '404' and 698') were loaded with rocket-launchers in order to perform CAS (Close Air Support) missions in support of LNA Army. The day after, concentrated air strikes were carried out by the LNA Air Force fighter jets targeting locations and concentrations of organization of IS near the street trees.



GNA affiliated Air Force

On 20th August : Within an integrated plan to secure and support stability in Libya, the air force has proceeded in the implementation of reconnaissance sorties over the central region to the far south of Libya to prevent new mlitants of crossing the Libyan border. On 28th, GNA AF carried out nine armed reconnaissance flights in the vicinity of Sirte and performed MEDEVAC missions by transferring the wounded from the area of operation of Sirte to Misrata onboard a An-32P

    I see a '05' on the tail of ac on the left? Ex-Egyptian?
